This is a National geographic special. It has a voice over, interveiws with experts (mostly historians), fairly elaborate reenactments, and scenes of current day Israel, including Herodium, Masada, Jerusalem, and the caves in Idumea.
The guest experts include Ken Spiro, Jonathan Price, Rupert Chapman, Moshe Herr, Al Baumgarten (all historians), Trevor Turner (psychiatrist), Walter Loebel (physician), and Jodi Magness (archeologist),
This is an excellent program with lots of useful information and very few errors. Most of the material does not deal with Jesus since most of Herod's reign took place before Jesus' birth. There is, however, one notable error, dating the Talmud 500 years after Herod's death. In fact the Talmud was written beginning in 200 AD, although parts of it were still being written in 500 AD. |
